Woman in Photography : Queen Victoria
Queen Victoria was a champion of the photographic arts. SheÂ started the practice of putting visiting cards in albums. In those times, photographic albums became a show of status, leading to the demand for and appreciation of photographic culture. Queen along with her husband, Prince Albert, collected one of the earliest of photographs, including works by renowned photographers such as Roger Fenton and Julia Margaret. Queen Victoria was also the first British Empress to have her life memories painted by light, as images of her playing a role of wife, mother and empress.
Queen played an important role in shaping the history of photography as well as photography played a significant role in shaping the image of the Queen.
